Pure pot still whiskeyWhiskey made with equal portions of malted and non-malted barley. Typical Irish.
Single maltMade from malted barley in one distillery. Not mixed with different malts.
Vatted maltMade from malted barley in several distilleries. A blend of single malts.
Pur malt Made from malted barley. The description does not explain whether it is a vatted malt or single malt.
DramA glass or portion of whisky
uisge beathaGaelic for "water of life". Uisge became uiskie which became whisky.
kilnArea where the malted barley is dried over an open fire. Identifiable by the distinct pagoda shaped chimney.
gristMalted barley crushed into a rough flouer.
mash tunLarge metal tub used for mashing.
wortSweet liquid extracted in the mashing process. Used as liquid for fermentation.
draffResidual after mashing process. Reprocessed for cattle feed.
wash backsLarge pine vats to collect the cooled wort from the mashing process.
wash Fermented liquid which goes into the distilling process.
wash stillLarge still used for the first distillation.
spirit stillStill used in the second distillation process.
spirit safeChamber to measure and direct the liquid towards the wanted receptacle.
